We Combined our Most Common Questions into one Page
What is WoolWax?
WoolWax is a lanolin-based undercoating designed to protect vehicles from rust and corrosion. It goes on thick, resists moisture, and stays flexible to provide long-term protection.
Will it ever dry? (most common question)
No. WoolWax remains soft and flexible. It doesn’t harden or crack, which is part of how it continues to protect metal surfaces over time. The fact that this product stays wet is by design. Your traditional rubberized undercoats may look great and harden quickly, but
Is WoolWax safe on rubber, plastic, and wiring?
Yes. WoolWax is safe on rubber bushings, plastic components, brake lines, wiring harnesses, fuel lines, and most undercarriage materials. It will not dry out rubber or damage coatings.
Can WoolWax be applied over existing rust?
Yes. WoolWax is commonly applied to surface rust. It stops oxygen and moisture from reaching the metal, which slows the rusting process significantly. It will not reverse rust, but it prevents it from getting worse.
Will WoolWax attract dirt or dust?
Some dust will cling to the surface because the coating stays wet, but this is completely normal. The protective layer remains intact underneath, and dirt does not interfere with rust prevention.
Will it wash off in a car wash?
Typically no. WoolWax is very resistant to water and high-pressure spray. Over time, exposed areas may thin slightly, but normal car washes won’t remove it.
Why don’t you use Fluid Film?
WoolWax is thicker, longer-lasting, and less prone to dripping compared to Fluid Film. Many shops prefer WoolWax because it stays in place better and provides extended protection. Fluid is a great product for a DIYer, but for a professional application, we prefer WoolWax due to its thick consistency and wash-off resistance.
How long does the process take?
If your vehicle is getting just a spray with no prep work or masking, it will take around 90 minutes. With a full prep and mask, depending on the size of vehicles it can take 3+ hours.
What is lanolin?
Lanolin is a natural, waxy oil derived from sheep’s wool. It’s highly water-repellent and corrosion-resistant, which is why it works so well in rust-protection products.
How often do you have to reapply WoolWax?
WoolWax is advertised to last 2+ years, that number will depend on how much you drive the car, and how much you beat up your truck. We keep a log of each customer, and if an area needs a touch up or an entire new spray, we provide discounts for return customers depending on how much they need resprayed.
